Abstract:

According to the characteristics of heterogeneous networks and the correlative protocols of network topology discovery, this paper proposes an algorithm for Ethernet physical topology discovery based on heterogeneous multi-subnets, which depends on the SNMP protocol. The experiments demonstrate that the algorithm can discover physical layer topology in an accurate and efficient way, can correctly identify the link connection types, and is an effectiv e means of solving this problem.
