Abstract:
For the high computation complexity of motion estimation in H.264 video coding standard, a fast motion estimation search algorithm using dynamic modes is proposed. The proposed algorithm calculates the motion magnitude and direction of macroblocks so as to choose the corresponding search mode for them. Meanwhile, the median prediction in the standard is improved and a dynamic strategy enabling the reference block stop early is proposed. The experiment shows that the proposed algorithm can decrease the motion estimation time while keeping the same ratedistortion performance. Compared with FFS and UMHexagonS, the proposed algorithm can reduce the motion estimation time by 85.28% and 35.29% respectively.
