Design of a Pipeline ADC Combination Error Analysis and Identification Model

Abstract:

Taking into account the mutual influence and coupling of different error sources in Pipeline ADC (Analog to Digital Converter), this paper detailedly analyzes the effect and weight of the dominant errors and their combinations on the overall accuracy. The relationship between spurs or harmonics and the combination errors is precisely confirmed. Based on that, an accurate parallel Wiener model for describing the Pipeline ADC nonlinearity is designed. Measurements on a 14bits Pipeline ADC with three stages indicate that the actual inputoutput characteristics of the system have the symmetric properties of the identification model. The selection of nonlinear inverse models in digital postcalibration techniques will  benefit much from the error analysis conclusions and the confirmed representation model proposed in the paper.
