Abstract:
In order to be the P frame's and B frame's reference pictures and provide access points to the coded sequence where decoding can begin and continue correctly, the intra coding (I Frame) in H. 264 is a moderate compression algorithm to reduce spatial redundancy independently, without making use of interframe prediction and compensation. To some extent, the intra-frame mode can be seen as a still-image compression standard. JPEG2000 is a state-of- the-art still image compression standard provided by ISO. This paper compares the two new still image compression methods and concludes that H. 264 part ly outperforms its competitor at very low bit rates and for small picture sizes, and otherwise JPEG2000 has better performance.
